Hello from home.....yeah!!!

Happy Winter everyone!!!

Ok....I like it..don't throw shoes at me!! Zach is having a ball as well....bought him a snowboard (plastic walmart special)and he is doing awesome on it....small hills but he has his balance.

Zachs counts are now high enough to where he can go places without wearing a mask or need anymore transfusions!!!!! Its the little things!!

school is back in session for him but we have a few visitors coming and plan on having some fun! Sharon...sista', is coming up Friday until Tuesday and then our older 2 children are coming in Tuesday night until Sunday.....Zach misses them a lot and wants to have slumber parties everynight with them...he as plans to do all kinds of stuff with them while they are here. It will be very nice to be together as a family....its been almost a year since we have all been together and after everything...it will be nice just to relax and have fun as a family. Jim will be taking vacation time while they are here.....

Zachs hair is growing back....peach fuzz!!! Its so nice. He will hopefully have his port out mid February....and that will wonderful....its a source for infection and he has been blessed not to have any that originated from that site. So...the sooner its out...the better.

Time for hitting the books and we are watching the inaguration at 12pm....everything is a learning opportunity...especially this!

Thank you for all the support and prayers

Bone Marrow results

Its official.....the bone marrow results show only normal healthy cells!!! He has been in remission since the first treatment and has had normal bone marrows since that time....however, he hasn't had one since the end of the 3rd treatment which was a while ago....it blurs...Anyway....so this one caused some anxiety...but it remains clear. So...officially remains in remission....one last test will return in 2 weeks and that has to do with the cytogenetics of the leukemia cells (chromosomes). They will look at the bone marrow cells and look for any "markers" which may indicate any abnormalities. I'm sure it will be fine.

So...the other exciting thing was Zach lost his first tooth today!!!!! He was so excited (I, on the otherhand don't care for this part of childhood....icky)

So..besides the temperature of 27 below this morning.....things are great!!

I have to google something for Zach....

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers

Steph

1/13/2008

Hello everyone!

So far everything is going well. We have gone back to the hospital 2 times for blood work and a transfusion but that was part of the plan. Thursday Zach has the last bone marrow and then they say a month or so later his port will be removed!

We are having a wonderful time being out of the hospital. Zach is enjoying all his toys and having his own room to play in....although he is usually pasted to my side. He, like most kids, isn't too sure about the "upstairs". So, when we he wants to go up to play in his room, one of us has to go as well, which is fine as I have a lot of organizing and unpacking to do.

Coming from Florida, zach has also learned that dancing in front of a space heater with a bare bottom can be a "very warm" experience. I had put one on the lid of the toilet in the bathroom as he was going to take a shower...just to warm it up a bit...and of course advised him to stay back from it (its a newer one so doesn't get hot to the touch) So as I was getting the water ready, he started dancing and stated at first "oh this feels good, its nice and warm". Then it went to "whoa, my butt's burnin'" WE all got a good laugh about that!

We are enjoying the snow and the cold weather....I snowed blowed and shoveled the other day. Zach likes tromping through the deep snow and sliding down the small hills on his rear. He has made several snow angels as well.

As soon as Zach's counts are high enough and he has a good immune system, we are looking forward to going to church and getting Zach into sunday school and starting Boy Scouts (or whatever his age group is called...tiger cubs I think). We hope to move to Danville this spring/summer so would like to get him started with these things in Danville and that way he will make friends for the summer and for school next year. One step at a time though...its nice to be able to think ahead about things other than returning to the hospital.

Ok.thats it for now....have to make dinner. I wil post more after Thursday and please keep Zach in your prayers that his bone marrow is negative for anything but normal cells!

Happy Winter
Steph

ZACH IS OUT!!!! 1/6/2009

Zach was discharged from the hospital today!!!! What a difference 2 days makes! We are now home and will spend time just relaxing. Zach has to go back to the hospital on Thursday for clinic as he will need transfusions until his bone marrow takes over and from what i was told, he will probably need to go 2 times per week for a while to keep an eye on his blood and platelet levels.

The first thing Zach did when we got home was to get on his snow boots and start shoveling! He thinks thats fun right now....I won't burst his bubble!

So...Zach is doing great and we pray he will continue to heal and rebuild and be back to "normal" soon.

Thanks for all the support and prayers...I can never say that enough!

Love
Steph and Zach

january 4th update

Happy New Year to everyone!

Today its official...Zachs counts are finally coming up. It has been 23 days of no immune system...zero counts. Today, he has had 2 days of signs that his bone marrow was coming around and now its real! I'm hoping that we will get to leave next week, sooner than later and get started on our "new" life here in Vermont. Zachs spirits are great...he never complains about being stuck in the room. He is eating, drinking and playing great. Thanks to all the prayers and Gods grace....Zach did not have any complications this round!!

So...thats it for now...the king is calling!!

Thanks for all the prayers and support!
